Guilt is a natural response to a mistake.
Guilt says you’ve made a mistake.
Shame says you’re a mistake.
Shame tells you, you’re bad, a cheat, and no good.
The danger is if you listen.
You will eventually start to believe it and own it.
Recognizing you’ve made a mistake is far different from believing you’re a mistake.
Guilt is holding an action or behavior up against your ethics, values, and beliefs.
Shame is focusing on who you’re not what you’ve done.
Guilt can motivate change. Guilt helps you reconcile your choices with your values.
Shame doesn’t help.
