The (Slippery Truth About) Self

The root of suffering can be found in clinging to a certain way of the self.

The way you perceive the self is worth investigating.

This does not mean you no longer have your personal views, needs, or feelings about things.

But you need not be driven by them.

Isn’t the wrong conception to believe your self is independent, permanent, and naturally made?

Doesn’t your mind ties together many strands to form the self?

  • It selects self-referential memories to retrieve and others to forget
  • It put you at the center of events and weaving a web of thoughts that reassure you by confirming your assumptions about the world.
  • It denies weakness.

To believe your mind when it says the self to be a solid entity, overlooking how it went about building the self up in the first place.

Does it help?

Are you not tired of suffering by making an identity mistake over and over?
